The name limousine originated from a Limousin region in France.
This region is known for the local traditional outfit- a cloaked hood worn by shepherds for the protection from the harsh weather. The covered compartments of the limousines resemble the hood, that’s why the automobile was called the limousine.
The word has remained the same since then, however these days it’s highly popular with the name of limo.
